There is always one week in February that is lovely. Snow melts, temperatures rise, hope soars. I look forward to that week all winter. I remember my first married February, the windows open, spring cleaning in full force, birds chirping and a cool breeze floating in. It's the week that gets me through to spring. Every year.
This year we've had a winter of that week. Minus the windows open. And birds chirping. And breezes floating in. So, really, just a winter of warmer temperatures. So imagine my hope that "the week" was going to be EVEN warmer. EVEN better. Hope soaring so high it was through the roof!
Sigh. This week turned cold. I've been shivering for two days and yesterday it was blustery and snowy and so very cold. The only thing I can come up with, is, this is opposite year. And instead of the hope filled week that restores sanity and reason, I'm left cursing winter for coming at all. Dagnabit. Where's my hope? Where's my sun that reaches the deepest part of my soul?
I may have done a search for Hawaii tickets yesterday. Just to check. I actually thought about what going back to San Diego would be like. And then I closed my browser and went to read. Under a blanket. I need sun.

Gettin' Crafty
So. Our house was in a painting frenzy last week. Our son has a fierce artistic streak (we're still wondering where it came from!) and I realized that I don't really have a lot in the house for his creative outlet, so off to the craft store we went, to pick a few things out. His very favorite thing is a canvas and paint. So we picked a couple up, as well as one for me. I had seen an idea on pinterest that I was oddly excited to try. I know! But...still. I took some lyrics (the first ones that came to me in the store!) and glued them via wooden letters onto a canvas.

At first, I painted it grey and then remembered my bedroom, where it was to reside, will at some point be grey. So a second trip produced two blue paints to mix (two shades of midnight blue produced a LOVELY and not 'country-ish' blue) and a second coat.

It now resides in my bedroom, on a shelf and I kind of love it. I realize I should have taken more time with lyrics, but now that I see how easy it was, I can play around with that when the crazy, I mean crafty, urge hits again.

I also recovered a journal in duct tape. I know...I'm out of control. Alert the pinterest masses! I'm a crafting fool.

And, the catalyst for this adventure, Sammy's creations. He's so proud of them.
This is his alien cat from Mars. Of course. Notice the 6 eyes and pipe cleaner tail. Hee!

And this. Which WILL be hung in the family room and most likely kept by me forever. A painting of me and Sammy holding hands. Sammy's the one holding grey Momo, naturally.

Brain Dump
*On Sunday, I stopped a girl at church to tell her how cute she looked. Seriously. She always looks cute and I have a little girl crush on her and her style. ANYWAY. I stopped her to tell her she looked cute and she said thank you and then told me how much she admires me and always has. Huh. I had no words. It's such a lovely thought, but I still think people are crazy when they say things like that!
*We rented the first disc of season 2 Justified this weekend, thinking that we would pace ourselves. Which, of course, found me frantically running to the video store Saturday night at 8:30 to grab the second disc. I just love that show more than should be possible. It's so good. And, well. At this rate we may be able to join season 3 on Hulu soon. Yay!
*HO.LY.CRAP. I think everyone in this state was riveted by this case, from the beginning. And this? I'm speechless. And cried when I read the news.
*Isaac "watched" the Super Bowl. Meaning he paused the game and fast forwarded through and only watched the commercials while doing our taxes. Sammy was bored and decided to dance and watch America's Funniest Videos instead. And then declared that he needed to tape a video of him (completely choreographed and transcribed in his mind, which he showed us) and then go to California to show AFV because they would love it. How did we get such a performer son?
*I need a hobby. I'm stumped.
*The Voice started last night. And happiness reigned in the world, again. Because, um...it's awesome. So very awesome.
*Sammy is going to a birthday party soon. The invitation is CRAZY and I wish I could show you. It's ninja themed and awesome. This mom, however, has more creativity in her discarded pinky nail than I will ever possess in my life. So there's that. But it's awesome, nonetheless.
*I "crafted". Pictures coming when I'm done. But still. I "crafted". I think I'm over it now.
