We bought a subscription to Kiwi Crate for Sammy. We got in just under the December wire and two days later, this box appeared in our mail box.
And after hemming and hawing for MONTHS, on whether or not to try it out, I have to say I'm so impressed! Sammy was immediately smitten, especially since it came addressed to him. So easy to impress the 6 year old set! They included a pair of scissors in our first package, since many projects take scissors. Immediately, I loved it. For us craft challenged people trying to raise crafty loving ones, I love that EVERYTHING is included in the box that you will need for the projects. If they tell you you will need it, it's in the box. Lovely!
Sammy especially appreciated the pastels. His new favorite medium of choice (thank you art in schools!). Next to penguin bowling, I think the pastels were his favorite thing and would have made the entire box worth it!
He got immediately busy dressing up his penguins for a rousing afternoon of bowling (ball included, of course). My favorite is Guapo, the Rastafarian penguin. Or Sasha. The purple mitten jazz hand penguin.*
We had a couple other projects to do (one including a silicone penguin ice tray) and lots of art. It kept Sammy busy over break, which was a terrific bonus. Plus, it gave this arts/crafts challenged mom a MUCH NEEDED focus. What do we need? In the box! I swear I'm their exact target audience and I fell for it. Completely and utterly without shame. Yes. I could probably gather all of this together for him on my own. But who are we kidding? I don't and wouldn't. And he gets something fun in the mail every month that he's going to love. Win.win.win.win.win.
*names pending, of course
(banana pancakes, jack johnson)
Oh how fun.
ReplyDeleteMom, it really is! I'm so, so impressed with it and Sammy can't wait for the next box.
DeleteOh wow!!! I really want to do this! What an awesome idea :) I'm so glad you put this up on your blog. It looks so fun.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I loved the "*names pending, of course" ha!
I used to be subscribed to something like this when Jake and then again when Brandi were that age. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteConvenience is often a perfectly legitimate expense and wise use of resources. I wish I had heard about this or something like it when my kids were younger. It looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteHe asks EVERY DAY if his new box is coming. Best thing ever.
