Here I Go Again...

You KNOW I don't blog for the hits and glory of it all, right? However, I do feel a certain responsibility to you all and lately, I've been remiss. Because I NEARLY missed sharing something with you. And that just isn't right. As it stands, THIS POST may be my highest commented on ever. Maybe. It's definitely up there. And every year I go back and read her annual name list. I don't always blog about it, but I feel I should. Because it's comedy GOLD, I tell ya.

So. I repent. I apologize for getting this to you all so late. Without further ado, THE LIST. Go. Read. Come back here and discuss. Because I do enjoy crazy baby names ALMOST as much as I enjoy good dreams of a buff Nathan Fillion whisking me away on Serenity...but that's another topic for another day.

Ok. Done? Let's get down to it, shall we? WHY for the love of all that is right and holy do people do this to poor innocent children? Oh man. My favorite category - BY FAR - is the phonetically spelled category. Because it's just wrong. No matter how popular Isabelle got, I still loved it. I've loved that name since I was little and have always dreamed of a little girl named Isabelle. It really was my first pick over Eliza for a girl when we got pregnant (but was vetoed - strongly - by Isaac). However. Izibele? May have ruined it forever for me. Sigh...

Moving on...Kaimen? Wow. BRAYAH?! Oy. It makes Acelyn (which, WHAT?!) look downright dainty and lovely! I was going to go with Razdyn as my particular winner for this year, but no. That HAS to go to Paizli. Oh wow. Just...I really don't want to think that all of these parents are uneducated, because I'm thinking it's not true. Right? It can't be true. But...please stop naming your kid something made up and awful. For everyone's sake! I mean Paisley is a LOVELY name. So cute. Paizli? Not so much.

Anyway. As my friends and I say...bless their hearts. No. Seriously. Bless them.

Sigh...

(here i go again, whitesnake....aw. whitesnake makes it all better!)

    1. Sigh...it's just easier to assume they are all not smart.

  2. I don't know why people do that to their children. I've heard a couple of stories recently that claim more than half of parents regret their children's names within the first five years. So far I have no regrets. I thought I was living on the edge a little, but Chase and Elyse sound so tame compared to those names.
Is it just me or do celebrities' children seem to be plagued with bad baby names? Apple? Coco? Maxwell Drew for a girl? Am I alone on this?
I like the uneducated theory, but I am afraid it just isn't always the case.

    1. Yes, well, I don't think the uneducated theory holds, either, but man! That would be such an easy answer...

  3. My BFF from high school had a nephew born last year whose parents names him Bear. They call him Baby Bear. At least it's not made up, right?

My son's favorite is the girl named La-a (pronounced Ladasha, of course).

    1. La-a is my favorite, too. THOSE are the brains they need to study!

  4. I love reading the list of names! Some people have let me know they didn't like our baby name choice. The office manager at our dentist told John we were hippies. His elderly aunt told us she is going to call the baby by her middle name. I think Lavender is pretty ordinary compared to some of the names on the list. It is a flower name after all. Like Lily, Rose, Jasmine etc. Anyway, we're happy with it!

When I was a teenager there was a man in our ward named Harold Wiener. Except he always went by "Harry." Really. Can you imagine? Even the adults giggled about it!

    1. 1. She actually COMMENTED on Lavender's name? Really? I mean who DOES that? To a person's face, anyway...

      2. Harry Wiener. I have no words.

  5. Lavender is my very favorite type of name...unusual but not weird. No one will ever say they've never heard it, no one can mispronounce it. It isn't hard to spell. I love it.

  6. Okay. Londynn... I suppose it's more exotic that London. and poor Kloe LoAnn...oy! So many reasons we went with Benjamin! A nice solid non-weird name. Seriously though, what is it with the need to create havoc with names!?!

Oh, and thanks for sharing them! hehe

    2. You know. It's the one I've been telling you.

    3. Is there a possibility she would/ could find this?

    4. Probably not, but what if she googled the name someday and this came up? Not worth it. But I've thought about anonymously submitting it to your blog girl in Idaho

    5. Oh, you should definitely do that.

    2. Wait. People make fun of your daughter's name? I LOVE your daughter's name!

    3. Rachel, I love your daughter's name too, although you might want to consider spelling it with a "Ph" and throwing in some extra vowels just for fun.

    4. Phylliscytie. Wow. That was WORK!

    5. Melanie, my dad's name is Phil and when we first named her, we told her we were spelling it with a Ph after him and he almost had a heart attack! But now I am thinking that Phylliscytie was totally the right choice.

And, yeah. People have bad taste. Felicity is a beautiful name. (If I do say so myself, but anyway, I didn't make it up.)

  9. How did I miss your premier post on baby names? I laughed so hard tears were rolling. My Idaho relatives have certainly used some strange names. My brother-in-law's kids are Essence, Persia, and Diesel (yes, as in gasoline). I have cousins who are Neesha, Tyce, Jaylee, Kaylee, Aleia.

Here in CA you get some interesting combos because of the Asian last names. My favorite was my mom's student, Harry Dong.

I recently met 3 musical sisters at a piano competition whose names were Dore, Sola, Remi (think Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti).

    1. Oh, Harry Dong. Not good. Can we all just agree to NOT use the name Harry? I think that's the best.

  10. Now I am thinking maybe I need to change our baby name. Maybe put some more vowels in it, or end it with a ly/lee. :)

  11. I came across WAY too many tragic, train wreck names in the education world, but the name that will ALWAYS top the charts was a little boy named Dragon (said like Dray-gon). NOBODY could get the poor kids name right and he was ALWAYS called Dragon (as in the big scary lizard :) Bless their hearts :)
