MAC discontinued my lipstick... I found out on New Year's Day by (serendipitously) actually opening up one of their emails and clicking on their 'goodbye' section. Not a week prior, I was joking with the lady at the MAC counter in Macy's that they "had better not EVER discontinue it because I would just dissolve into tears". Yeah. Very funny, MAC. So not the most, best, warm fuzziest start to the new year, if you ask me.
Isaac wasn't sure what the big deal was. I get that. So I tried to explain. I've worn this color everyday for the past...7? years. I found it just after we moved to San Diego and I fell in love with the color. It WAS my go to color. I didn't have to think about it, it was just always there for me. So I spent New Year's placing several orders (for some reason, they limit you to 4 of one item at a time *coughdumbcough*) to stock up. I was planning on one more order by this weekend, but when I checked Wednesday, Eden Rocks was completely sold out. Sniff. How long will 13 tubes last? I did order a few close colors, as well, to start auditioning replacements, but...I'm still a little sad.
I become VERY brand loyal. VERY. So any discontinuations are difficult for me. I'm sure it's because I very much hate change, but still. Am I the only one? Do you all have make up or other things that would rock your world should they stop making it? I know my mom was that way with a type of laundry soap, so I'm not TOTALLY alone...
(in chains, depeche mode)
Nope you are not alone, and not just laundry soap.
ReplyDeleteMy lipstick is the same way, as is my foundation. I hate having to try other things to see if they work. They rarely ever do and it takes forever to find something else that I like. The trial and error frustrates me and I hate wasting money buying new things that I end up not using.
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me not to long ago with a deodorant that I loved. Usually I stock a few, but once I got to the end of the last one and went to get more, no one had it. No one. Every online seller had it at an exorbitant price, so I contacted the manufacturer. Sure enough they weren't making it anymore. To say the least, it was super frustrating going through the process of trying to find something else that worked as good.
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. I lost my favorite lipstick in Japan, and I can't even remember what it was called or who made it, but I've been trying to find a similar color, and it's like nobody makes it. Nobody makes anything close to it. All other colors look freakish on me. It's a problem.
ReplyDeleteI think most of us are the same. I went to get Grandma Corn Huskers lotion for Christmas since it is almost one of the things she can use and not allergic to, and could find it nowhere. I started calling everywhere I used to buy it and no one had it. On line a used to be $2.50 bottle of lotion was like $35.oo on ebay. I finally took her to the store and she smelled and looked at everything available and finally bought one she thought she could use and it didn't work for her. Nope don't think any of like to be FORCED to change. Have a great day
ReplyDeleteAunt Eloise - I SWEAR I just saw some of that at a store recently. I'll let you know if I see it again!
ReplyDeleteI hate when this happens. I've had it happen with lipstick and certain food brands. Most recently, we have mourned the loss of stain stick at our house. My kids are even up in arms about it.
ReplyDeleteI know I saw some of the corn huskers lotion, Aunt Eloise, because I buy it for Trevor. I'll look when I go to the store this weekend.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was so mad when that same brand of laundry detergent changed there formula. There were several unhappy letters and phone calls from me.
And lipstick? The kind I like is no longer sold in the U.S. and I can't find it online. When I found out I bought a bunch and am getting to the end of my stash and cannot find a color I like. It is so frustrating.
I don't wear lipstick, I probably should, but I just don't enjoy it and I've never found "the one".
ReplyDeleteMy problem is hair products. I'm super picky and I have a hard time finding the right combination that will give my hair body, but not make it frizzy, make it look healthy, but not weigh it down, hold the style, but not make it too stiff. It seems like just when I've found the perfect combination then I run out of one of the products and I run to the store to buy it and lo and behold it's discontinued. Grrrr! This has happened with shampoo, mousse and hairspray. It's so frustrating! I can't tell you how much money I've wasted hunting for replacements.
I just stockpiled on hairspray recently because I was told it's been discontinued. I was only able to find a couple though. They might last me 6 months or a year, I'm not sure. I'm just delaying the inevitable.
I think delaying the inevitable is ok! I bought a case of shampoo last year through Amazon when I found out they were changing the formula...and in the meantime, I've found something else to work in, so my stash lasts longer!
ReplyDeleteTawnya or Sandra if you either one find it I will send you the money for like $40. worth. Sometimes I think Grandma drinks it, not really, but when she is so allergis to everything else and you are using it on all your body it goes pretty fast. Let me know and I will get the money right off to you to buy and ship. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, unless we're talking about Mac n' Cheese by Kraft. I'm not loyal at all. I love trying new things. I don't wear much make up and the make up I do wear, I get a different kind with every coupon that takes off more money. I wonder how it would be to find something I love...Hmmm...Laundry detergent?? any thing but purell. deodorant, anything that doesn't let me stink and cheap...apparently I need to be taught the art of this...
ReplyDeleteArt? Maybe you have it better...at least you aren't at the point of tears over the demise of Eden Rocks lipstick!
ReplyDeleteOh, you are SO not alone. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. The trauma! TRAUMA.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I'm more like you. I'm brand loyal to very few things (Kraft mac and cheese is one of them, though!) I would be sad if they stopped making my hairspray or my mineral makeup-but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be devastated. I'm too lazy to care that much.
