Happy Weekending

The Adventures of Ichabod Crane is on deck. Monsters vs Aliens Halloween is being tivo'd. Costume is adorable and resented, ready to carnival it up. Jack o Lantern pizza is bought and jack o lantern pumpkins are, well, trashed due to mold. The only thing left is...

(everday is halloween, ministry)

Happy Halloween!

It's Love

It's been nearly a year, but I've finally gotten my office corner and the whole of the family room nearly perfect. LOVE, people. I'm still trying to decide what color to paint the walls, but...it's clearly not a priority. And if you lean decoratingly, please don't point out the flaws. That will just make me weepy...

This print:

(from here) is one of my favorite things in the room. I saw it first right after we moved here and I never forgot it. I finally sucked it up a few months ago and ordered it (don't buy it and if you still want it 2.5 years later...). The first one sent was horribly bent and he happily sent another, quickly. I found the frame and really wanted it to be a focal point in the room. And I could not be more pleased. Even if I do wish I had gotten it much, much sooner.

The print sits on our family bookcase.

It's the case that holds all the books we read, or will read, as a family. It also has workbooks for Sammy and the basket for the remotes and all our travel books. Add our 1-2-3 baskets and a stuffed robot and you have a pretty cute little spot.

I have been needing a new office chair for awhile. As much as I loved my little red number, it killed sitting in it for any length of time. So, when the back injury of ridiculousness happened and coincided with an IKEA trip, well...this happened:

Isn't it pretty? I'm a little, tiny bit in love with it. I kinda want to make out with it on a daily basis, it's so dang pretty. Oh, I mean...

I also think that it finishes off my office perfectly.

I am in love with mismatched, crowded wall above full of all things I love. Isaac bought me the orange typewriter print and I think the I (heart) Oregon print is just perfect.

On the other side of the room is the family room part. First up, the tv corner.

And then swinging around to the couch.

I will not lie. I am fairly certain that I will never find another couch I love as much as this one. Just. Will. Not. We have loved this couch for years and we both know that we need to reupholster it in the worst of ways, but...I don't wanna. I love my big eggplant velvet couch. We had these square mirrors from IKEA above the couch, but I never loved how they looked. So I found some prints and mounted them over the mirror part and hung them back up. Well, all but four of them. And I love how they turned out.

Directly across from my desk (and with just the perfect amount for the couch), is a nook that is Sammy's art corner (with added bonus kitchen!). I will completely admit that I had a vision of this corner since the moment we first saw the house. And it's just perfect. And I can already see in my mind how the art corner will someday be a homework corner...

Finishing off the room, on the other side of the art nook, is the sewing table. Which, even if I'm not a great (or even good) seamstress, is nice to have out and available for those quick rice bags. Or pillow cases. Or repairs. Or blankets. (yup...I think that encompasses everything I can sew!) I was also able to use the extra four IKEA mirrors here, which was nice. I like them there much more than my space needle print, which goes MUCH better over my desk...

Slowly, but surely, I'm getting everything perfect. Next summer, I fear, will be the summer of paint. I have NO idea what color my orange / red / purple family room will be (I'm thinking brown of some shade...or a blueish gray), but I'm happy that I love it so much without the color. The same can't be said about all of the rooms in my house...

Girl You Know It's True

1. I'm kind of wanting a piano. Which is a little crazy for me. I don't *really* play, but I think without the pressure of daily practice and lessons, I may enjoy it. A little. However, I do not know where I would put it. Anyone who has been in our house have any ideas? Because right now I'm thinking it's a no go as far as room. And...a piano? I don't know what to do with that.

2. A new side of Sammy has been emerging lately. He's been taking charge a little bit more. He's throwing out phrases like "Um...you can go, I don't need you" and "I don't need Momo right now" and it's all at once killing me and making me proud. The other night, Isaac and I came to the realization that we don't think Sammy sees himself as a little kid. So I asked. And Sammy confirmed it. That's why he gravitates to the 'little kids', consoling them and bossing them...he sees himself in the parent role. Aaaaaahhhhh. Gotcha. That makes sense.

3. We're starting to talk options for Sammy's schooling next year. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, as our first choice is a lottery system charter school. But, still. I think it would be a great fit for him.

4. After a year, I finally know how I want to do our master bedroom. It involves a lot of gray, blue and yellow. Now...does anyone know decorating fairies that will come in a take my vision out of my head and make it real in a weekend? For about $25? No? I really am more of a "tell them what to do and hire someone to do it" kind of girl than a "decorate myself" (shudder...) kind of girl... However, minus color on the walls, I have FINALLY gotten my family room / office perfect. I'm completely in love. I'll make a tour of it tomorrow.

5. Sammy has been sleeping on our floor for a couple of weeks, now. We put down his sleeping bag and some blankets every night and every night (usually sometime around 3 or 4, though we never know for sure since he doesn't wake us up) he crawls right in. While both of us enjoy this much more than him crawling into bed with us (he's nearly 4 feet tall!), I am still wondering what is up with this. I'm not super concerned, but...his bed must be getting mighty lonely.

6. And...we had snow this week. Sure, it's nearly Halloween and it's late this year. I still wasn't ready.

Top 5 REM

1. Try Not To Breathe

Seriously one of my top favorite songs ever. I. Just. Love. It.

2. Man on the Moon

And, well, hello. It's amazing how much I love this song.

3. Everybody Hurts

4. Losing My Religion

I have loved this song from the first second I heard it. I was OBSESSED with this song in high school. And, oddly, the love is still pretty strong.

5. Fall On Me

Honorable Mentions (also known as "could be top 5 on any given day"):
What's The Frequency, Kenneth, Finest Worksong, You Are The Everything, Moral Kiosk, Half a World Away (or, really, a good chunk of Out of Time)
