Waiting and Hoping. Or The Third and Final Question

Romantic comedies. Greatest thing since sliced bread or....meh. You decide.

My take: I love 'em. God bless the romantic comedies. Well, most of them. I'm a sucker for the boy / girl / predictable ending film. I blame Pretty In Pink. I will watch them all. I may not love them all the same, but I will watch them. And, honestly, there are very few I out and out hate. Like Hope Floats. Ok. I probably hate a few more, I just have blotted them from memory.

My favorite, though, is Notting Hill and feel it is the one all are measured against. Well, that and French Kiss. (aside...do you know what you get when you youtube french kiss? I do not recommend finding out.)

Your turn. Love 'em, hate 'em? Favorites? Discuss while I go rent Leap Year and watch it. Again.

And a hugging follow up, because it's funny. Click here.

  1. Love 'em. You know, except Hope Floats. But I choose to live in a reality where no one actually likes that movie.

  3. Love 'em. Even Hope Floats.
Why the hate for Hope Floats anyway?

  4. Love 'em. Never saw Hope Floats .. and now I won't. Favorite: Ever After. Although, I really enjoyed Letters to Juliet. Notting Hill is one of my faves too.

  5. Trish - it's just...bad.

Kim - did you like letters to Juliet? I've wondered if it was good or "Nicholas Sparks to be avoided". Hmmmm.

  6. I generally like romantic comedies. I don't have any strong feelings about Hope Floats, but when you're talking about BAD romantic comedies, the first one that comes to mind is Made of Honor. So, so, bad. BAD, bad. Like anger-inducing bad.

Notting Hill is great. I LOVE Ever After, too.

  7. Then in NO way shape or form will I tell you I watched Made of Honor three times. And each time rooted for Kevin McKidd...

  8. Oooooo! I'm living in that other world in which people DO like Hope Floats. In fact, I don't dig romantic comedies very much at all. Don't mind them tooooo much I guess. But LOVED (capitalized) Hope Floats! Heh. Can we still be friends. Talk about it tonight ;)

  10. Love 'em. Unfortunately I don't get to see enough of them. My husband only cares to watch movies that get good reviews (Rotten Tomatoes) and for some reason the chick flicks don't rate so high, maybe because they're too predictable. What's wrong with predictable? So I have to wait for a Ladies Night Out or for him to go out of town to watch them, which isn't very often.
I don't remember disliking Hope Floats. I do remember liking Notting Hill, but not loving it, maybe I need to watch it again. I'm debating seeing Letters to Juliet (in general I strongly dislike Nicholas Sparks), never heard of Made of Honor, now I'm curious. I've heard mixed things about Leap Year, but hope to see it sometime. I LOVE Princess Bride and Ever After.

  11. I'm the same with Sparks. Ew and ugh, all at once.

Leap Year was NOT great. But I did like it. Same with Made of Honor. NOT great. But I did like it.

  14. Dig the romantic comedies. totally fine with predictable plots. LOVE French Kiss, and Sabrina (the Harrison Ford one).

Christin: my husband does the Rotten Tomatoes thing too which really bugs me. perhaps because i detest having complete strangers tell me what i should and shouldn't like.

  15. Well, I feeling much better about Isaac being willing to watch anything and everything with me. Though, I think he's a little "period romance'd" out!

  16. I don't trust the people on rotten tomatoes either. How do I know they're into the same things as me? They could be into slasher films or sci-fi or something and detest romantic comedies out of hand. That doesn't make romantic comedies bad just because they don't appreciate a nice clean, happy movie. I trust my girlfriends opinions most when it comes to romantic comedies.

  17. I COMPLETELY agree with that, Christin. My ex was a film critic and we often had different tastes!
