Weekly Random

When you tell your 2 year old you have an owie in your head and they kiss it all better, don't you wish that was ACTUALLY the cure?

I was never a Stephen King fan, but I find him a little more appealing now!

Ring of the week:

This is my first (and, unless something changes, last!) Valentine's present from Isaac. He bought it, at great expense (I think it was $20 after coupon and that nearly wiped us out!), our first Valentine's Day after we were married. I still wear it, mostly as a companion piece to one of my other wedding rings. I love it.

Spending two hours on the phone with someone who truly cracks you up is the cure for what ails you. That's exactly what my crappy day needed, Diane! Well, that, and the birthday present* you sent!

I start knitting lessons next week, much to the amusement of my sister. She's just happy she was there to witness me buying something from a crafty store...

Sammy said his first bad word last week. And then promptly made up a song about said word. It was quite the stellar act of parenting, if I do say so myself. (sorry, mom) I didn't tell Isaac, which is an act of stellar companionship. (maybe now wasn't a good week to guilt him into reading my blog...)

Hearing Brian Williams say "smoking pot from a bong" totally made me giggle.

Um, the last two points (and me laughing at the lip gloss...) is probably why no one lists "righteous" as a top Tawnya attribute when describing me.

I'm LOVING these for Isaac.

I need to find something bold for my bedroom wall. Or several things to make up something bold...

Song of the week:

(shattered, o.a.r.)

*not actual bag, but I'm too lazy to pull out my camera!

This I Remember...

I am having a full-fledged, all-out, holy cow attack of cabin fever mixed with spring cleaningitis. It's been a few years since I've felt this, but I remember it well. I remember that first winter I was married to my ex. It was long and cold and for one week in February, we had unseasonably warm temps. He golfed, I opened windows, cleaning and cooking and feeling rejuvenated.

It's not unseasonably warm this week (I'm so cold!) but I still spent the morning cleaning out closets and putting old things in sacks for charity. I've rearranged two rooms in the past week, deep cleaning as I go. I have a plan in place to deep clean the rest of the house in the coming weeks in the hopes that when I'm done, it'll be warm enough to tackle the garage and set the toys back on the back porch, ready for spring. I know it's a long shot seeing as it's only early February, but a girl needs to dream. These next couple of months are going to be brutal.

I can't wait for spring. I can't wait to turn off the heater and throw open the windows. I can't wait to air out the house. I can't wait to put the clothesline back up and get our yard ready for lettuce and onions and herbs. I can't wait for flip flops and a warm sun. I can't wait to look out and see color where there is now only a sea of white. I can't wait for walks outside and park days and the farmer's market.

But in this winter grip that I swear won't let go, I realize why I missed winter so much in San Diego...its absence deprived me of the longing for spring. It turns out I need that longing in my life. I need to shed my hibernating skin, slowly cleaning and putting things in place and emerge energized. It seems to fuel my soul.

No, It's NOT Groundhog Day...

I feel silly announcing to the world that today is my birthday, but...well...today is my birthday. My present was bought, by me, last Novemberish, and since Isaac's birthday is also in February, we usually split the difference and go out to eat somewhere nice to celebrate both, so it's not going to be a particularly big day in anyway. We have a cake (which Sammy already had some of last night to silence the whines - I'm such a good mom) and my SIL dropped off my present Friday, which was completely thoughtful and appreciated (thanks Amanda!); a Maggie's Buns travel mug with a sample of Bellagio Sipping Chocolate inside. Both will be getting use later! My sister brought over my present yesterday, a beautiful red bowl that has found a home on the shelves above my desk, filled with all sorts of little notebooks and sticky notes and general paper product nirvana. Love it.

Which means that today will be spent being a mom, realizing that I'm now 35(!), have been blogging exactly a year, avoiding the tv until the special one hour Office comes on, badgering my husband since I have ANOTHER small (non)infection in my other eye and I don't know why and church while battling a "just let me take my nap" 2 year old. Maybe, if the birthday gods align, I can sneak away into a quiet corner somewhere and read. If only for a couple of minutes.

35. Seriously. When did that happen?
