My sister, Sandra, asked for favorite movies the other day. After I rattled off about 27, I realized I couldn't narrow it down. I couldn't just say "This is my favorite". It seems that I like different movies for different reasons. Some are funny and remind me of things (Bedazzled, which holds a soft spot because it reminds me of Isaac. And Oregon.). Some are serious (Gattaca - which happens to have been our first date). Some are beautiful (Girl With a Pearl Earring). Some I need to watch again & make sure I love them as much as I think I do (Jane Austen Book Club). Some are favorites because they remind me of how far I've come (The Story of Us, Reality Bites).
So I decided that I would try to narrow my list down to my top 10. In sort of order. I'm wondering if songs would be easier...
1. French Kiss - Just what a romantic comedy should be. I'd quote my favorite line, but my mom reads this blog, so I'll refrain. Although, I also like to quote her "...twisted metal, naked babies crying for their mothers..." bit when I'm about to board an airplane.
2. The English Patient - Colin Firth, Ralph Fiennes. That is all. Oh, and it's a beautifully told story as well.
3. Pride and Prejudice - The BBC edition, of course. Jane Austen. Colin Firth. Again, enough said.
4. About A Boy - Nick Hornby is one of my all time favorite authors. I love the way he writes. Take one of my favorite novels by him, throw in Hugh Grant and my girl crush Toni Collette and I was helpless against this one. (Although, if you are looking for a Nick Hornby adaptation, may I suggest not going near the American Fever Pitch? The British version with Colin Firth was much better.)
5. Possession - It's just a beautiful film. Even if I am the only one in America that's seen it.
6. The Very Thought Of You - It has Joseph Fiennes, brother to Ralph. The yumminess runs in the family, clearly.
7. Danny Deckchair - A lovely Australian film about living your dreams. It so lovely and funny and out there. I find myself grabbing this one over and over.
8. Notting Hill - Probably my favorite romantic comedy. Ever.
9. The Count of Monte Cristo - The subtleties are awesome. Visually stunning. Such a great story.
10. Waitress - I just LOVED this movie. It was quirky. It was real. It was sad. It had Nathan Fillion. I loved it.
Honorable mentions: The Baxter, Stranger Than Fiction, In Good Company, Pieces of April, Say Anything, Sliding Doors

More Anniversary News and Other Things
First off, today is my in-laws 37th anniversary. Happy Anniversary! I hope it's a great day!
In other news, I had my first brush with poison control this morning. Sammy thought it would be fun to eat a half tube of my hand cream. I was sure it was fine, but seriously - a half tube? Apparently he can unscrew caps now. Good to know!
Isaac spent yesterday afternoon while I was at lunch (thanks for the fun lunch, Diane! I can't wait to do it again!) taking everything off our walls. My house looks so bare, now (not to mention the dirty walls. Ick!). I think we are hitting that point in packing that we'll need to stop soon and wait until the week before. Exciting!

Happy Anniversary!
Today is my parent's anniversary. I'd say which one, but I'm terrible at math (ok, ok...it's their 47th). My sister, Sandra, has lovely pics up of them, so I'll just say ditto to what she said...
same, same!
